Workshops (6 - 8 Hours) -For most of the workshops, participants are asked to do some cutting at home so that we are ready to sew as soon as the workshops begin. For Topsy Turvy Nine Patch and Jellybean Garden, participants are asked to make the nine patches prior to class time so that we can get the top mostly finished in class.
Because borders are so important to the overall quilt, a small portion of each class will be dedicated to borders. We will discuss:
If you have seen one of my projects you think your guild/group would enjoy and you do not see it here, please contact me.
A Rose is a Rose - (76" x 96") - Scraps can be used with a single or multiple background fabrics. Emphasis is given to creating transparency in the secondary blocks. A simple four patch border made from leftover fabrics or scraps frames the center. Kits for fabrics for transparency are available but not required. Patriotic Stars (78" x 90") - The Tri-Recs™ ruler is used to create perfect points. Paper piecing is used for the ribbon border, which is a very versatile border that will be used over and over.
Class Supplies for Patriotic Stars.
Hyacinth Stars (72" x92") - Star blocks are framed with an interesting sashing and borders. This sashing and borders can be used for any quilt.
Shining Star - (66" x 84") - This quilt is made using shades of one color, as well as a background color and can be a very effective use of the stash. Alternate block setting eliminates matching points from one star block to another star block. With effective pressing, all seams "nest", which makes for an appearance of perfect piecing! The Tri-Recs™ ruler is used for the star blocks.

Jellybean Garden (81" x 95") - A great use of nine patch blocks. Very simple blocks, very simple sashing and very simple borders combine for a stunning quilt. This is another fantastic stash reduction project.

Topsy Turvy Nine Patch (60" x 78") - Another great quilt using the simple nine patch block. Portions of the blocks are paper pieced.
Big Star - 72" x 90" - The background can be scrappy or one fabric. The stars are definitely scrappy. Large pieces with a no waste method of making flying geese. Instructions will be given for making a scalloped outer border, though it isn't necessary to do a scalloped border.
Peaches & Cream - 80" x 92" - A very quick and simple pattern. No points to match, seam matching is very forgiving on this pattern. A great way to use the stash by using as many fabrics in one color, together with whites or ecrus.
Bears in the Farmhouse - 72" x 87" - A spiffy pattern for using stripes. Do you have a great stripe in your stash and you're not quite sure what to do with it? Bears in the Farmhouse makes great use of a stripe. Lots of half square triangles! We'll go over several methods for making half square triangles.

Borders & Sashings - A full day of pieced borders and sashings. No sewing is required but bring your digital camera and take lots of pictures. A booklet ($5.00 fee per student) is included with border/sashing instructions, as well as a sheet for calculating how to figure the "fudge" or coping strip to make pieced borders fit your top.
